Gavin Fisher interview
Bacelona, Feb 2003

This was another interview snatched at the last minute, arriving late at Barcelona, following blizzards in the UK closing the airports. I arrive dpart way through the group interview and the line of questioning beign centred on tyres, I was able to record these comments. gavin did agree to meet me later for a private interview but troubles in the running of the car meant he was unable to spare the time.

Q: Changes for this year
GF: I think the simplest answer is everything changes, the magnitude of the changes is different on different aspects of the car, visually you can see the exterior appearance is different because the components on the outside and also the way the car is packaged underneath every component is new gain there are some completely new concepts under the skin that haven’t been seen even on Williams or else where

Q: Shorter engine
GF: Played some part but not a huge part engines are optimised to such an extent now, its very difficult to get the to an substantially shorter length, we have to look elsewhere to achieve what we have.

Q: Thought about a twin keel
GF: We don’t exclude any concept on principle, we evaluated ideas we’ve seen on others car and ideas of our own as well, but clearly the solution you pick is the one that makes the fastest car.
